FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS CONCERNING ROLE OF LEADERS

Q: What is my role as the student minister to the Staffer?
A: Join your heart with him/her by taking time to get to know them. Share specifically what your burden is for your campers whether it be for salvation , renewal or a deeper spiritual walk. Communication is a major key to an enjoyable and productive camping experience. Don’t feel threatened by their leadership. Remember they are here to under gird you and help your students.
Q: What will I be doing while my campers are involved with activities?
A: You have complete control over your schedule. You do not have to participate but we welcome you too as much as you like!
Q: Will I be able to join in with my kids in what they do?
A: Absolutely! You are welcome to be involved in as much or as little of the program as you desire. If you need time to kick back and relax, that’s okay.
Q: Are we required to have leaders come with our students?
A: While we welcome leaders, many churches are unable to send leaders with their students to Longridge. Our staff makes sure that your students are well supervised and cared for. Please make sure to give accurate contact numbers.
Q: What are the housing accommodations for youth pastors?
A: Pastors, Youth Pastors and adult leaders will be housed in a hotel-like lodge at Longridge. Please note that the leaders will probably be in the room with other leaders, possibly from other churches.
Q: What time is registration and pickup?
A: Registration begins at 12:30 on Mondays. Camp ends after lunch on Friday. Parents who RSVP are welcome to attend the final lunch and award ceremony. ENTRANCE GATES WILL OPEN AT 12:30PM ON MONDAY. PLEASE SCHEDULE YOUR ARRIVIAL ACCORDINGLY.
Q: How does the Camp Bank work?
A: Longridge operates a Camp Bank in which the students can give their money over to the bank on Monday. They will be assigned a number and when they want to buy something, it will automatically be subtracted from their account. On Friday, they will receive in cash what they did not use from their original amount. This system ensures that money will not be lost or stolen throughout the week. This system is mandatory for Children Weeks and optional for Youth Weeks. Please have your students money ready and separated in envelopes by name at registration.
Q: What should I do if I see Camp Rules violated?
A: If you see camp rules being violated by students that are not from your church, please notify a staffer immediately and we will address the situation.
Q: Can adults from my church come and visit Longridge?
A: We encourage visitors to attend or Wednesday night worship services and stay for the following talent show. Please let us know if and how many visitors will be coming so we can prepare accordingly.
Q: Where is the closest Walmart?
A: One of our more popular questions! Exit the gate of Longridge and take a right. Proceed all the way to the stoplight in Lugoff (15 minutes). Turn left and Walmat/K-mart will be across the bridge.
Q: What time do you lock the gate at night?
A: The gates lock at 11:00pm for safety. If you will arrive back at camp after 11:00pm, please notify our staff supervisor to make arrangements.
Q: Do you have internet access I can use?
A: Be sure to visit our leader’s study. Here there are comupters, desks, a small library, and a comfy place to sit back and have some time to yourself or with other leaders. We also offer free wi-fi coverage in most of our buildings. Just bring a laptop with a wi-fi card and jump on the net!
Q: Do you have phone access for leaders?
A: If you need to contact a parent of your student, let us know and we will give you phone access. For all other calls, there is a pay phone at the lodge. Cell phone service is sporadic but most phones can get a signal somewhere on camp property.
Q: Why do you make it mandatory for students to be at the lake during free time?
A: Our program is relationship driven in which the staff is responsible for student supervision. Allowing the students to swim, play basketball, volleyball, ping-pong or horseshoes at the lake ensures that your students are properly supervised.
Q: Can I bring my children to stay with me in the lodge?
A: Unfortunately, we only have room for church leaders and chaperones in our adult housing.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - GENERAL
Q: How much money should I send with my son/daughter?
A: An estimate of $30 for concessions (drinks, candy, chips) and $16 for a camp shirt. DVD videos of the week will be available ($8.00) as well as camp CD’s featuring our praise team ($10).
Q: Does my son/daughter need medical insurance?
A: Longridge provides limited coverage. Medical charges in excess of our policy coverage is to be covered by campers personal insurance.
Q: How safe is your camp?
A: Our first priority is camper safety and we go the second mile to make sure what we provide is done in safety. Certified lifeguards are always on duty during water front activities. An EMS team is stationed two miles from our camp.
Q: How can I get in touch with my son/daughter during camp?
A: A camper email system is in place. Write your daughter/son’s name in the subject space and we will get it to them at mealtime. Due to the number of students attending camp they will not be able to respond. You may write them in care of Camp Longridge, 10 Longridge Road, Ridgeway, SC 29130. Do not use the Columbia address for camper mail. In case of emergency you may reach them by calling 866-966-9805 Option 3.
Q: Should campers bring dress up clothes?
A: No. Casual attire but modest is acceptable for all our activities.
Q: If a camper has been sick can he/she still attend?
A: Camp policy requires that a period of 24 hours must elapse without a fever before a camper can attend. Please protect your students and a host of others from the spread of a virus by not allowing any sick person to come with you. If you question whether one should attend or not please first talk with our camp nurse.
Q: What about prescription medicine?
A: It must be checked in with the camp nurse upon registration at camp. Please bring all medicine in a zip-lock bag with name clearly written on it. Include inside the bag typed instructions concerning dosage and time it should be administered.
Q: Why do you require picture identification?
A: Safety is our foremost concern here at Camp Longridge and having a picture ID of students on hand could save valuable time in event of an emergency.
