Wonderous Wednesday

Date June 16, 2010

Hi! This is Allison, a new staffer from Georgia! Today was a WONDEROUS Wednesday here at Camp Longridge! The day began as some campers woke up bright and early to go fishing, followed by a delightful breakfast of pancakes and cereal. After breakfast, the campers met up with their teams and participated in the low ropes course. If you didn’t know, the low ropes consists of activities intended to challenge campers both mentally and physically. The campers, as well as the staffers, all had a great time at the low ropes!

After the low ropes course, we had our glorious morning worship service! We sang a few songs, and of course, had a bible drill. The outcome of the bible drill was very close, but the campers all did a fantastic job at scouting out scripture verses.

Following the worship service, we had team bible studies. For example, the orange team learned how to seek Godly wisdom, the only true wisdom. It was a magnificent lesson for everyone, and I believe that we all got something very useful out of it.

After bible study, we had delicious chicken sandwiches for lunch, followed by none other than the GREAT Peanut Patch Olympics! The campers got to play some awesome games in the chapel such as basketball, darts, and football toss.

After Peanut Patch, we all headed down to the lake for some refreshing swim time, or relax time for some. Then it was spaghetti for dinner! YUM! After dinner, we had our evening chapel service, and the amazing talent show. All the skits were AWESOME, and everyone definitely had a great time.

Well, that pretty much wraps up WONDEROUS WEDNESDAY at Camp Longridge. Hope you enjoyed reading about it as much as I enjoyed writing about it! Today was an awesome day, and I know that tomorrow will be fantastic as well. Bye!

Tremendous Tuesday!

Date June 15, 2010

Today was a fantastic day at Camp Longridge! We all woke up prepared to encounter God and each other in new and surprising ways! After a delicious breakfast, we headed up to the hill for CHAOS and SCRABBLE! During these games, the campers got to pour all kinds of awesome things like ketchup and relish and chocolate and shaving cream all over their staffers!

After these team activities, we met in chapel for some exciting worship with the prasie band and for the morning Bible drill! It was a close one! After a canteen break, we gathered for Bible studies with our teams and our fantastic teachers!

After a yummy lunch of hamburgers and french fries, the campers had their first day of the Peanut Patch Olympics! Each camper got the chance to play a variety of exciting games set up in the chapel to earn points for themselves and their team! After Peanut Patch, we all headed to the lake for some fun in the sun! The campers had a blast playing on the blob, zipline, slide, canoes, and swimming in the lake!

For dinner, we had some tasty grilled chicken, veggies, mac & cheese, and pumpkin pie! After dinner, we gathered for our evening chapel service where we sang to God and learned from Mr. Frank about honorable ways to speak and how to tame our tongues!

After chapel, we headed to our canteen break and then to our night activity where we watched a hilarious VeggieTales film! Today was filled with fun and excitement, and we can’t wait to see what tomorrow will bring!

Take care,

H (aka Hillary)

Hey everybody! It’s your buddy Jimmy here. Today we had an awesome conclusion to our first week of camp. I started off the day by taking a group up on the high ropes course. We had an awesome time going through all the elements and the swing. After that we had some time to pack up and clean up. Then we had our final team activity and made sure we kept camp looking pretty. After that we headed to the chapel for lunch, awards ceremony, and our final goodbyes. We had a stupendous week of camp, and i look forward the rest of the summer.

Hello blog-world! Today was our first full day of Super Summer at Camp Longridge! We did so many things! Each team is working hard to win the spirit flag through cheering competitions and games throughout the day. I think the campers loved CHAOS today where they got to mess up the staffers with food and water! Fun was had by all! The lake was wide open and bustling with excitement during free time! I womaned the crafts table and enjoyed watching over 200 campers and a bunch of staffers relishing summertime in the sunshine! God is really working through this week. The campers and staffers are building awesome relationships and both are learning so much from each other already. As I type this, our theme song is playing in my head! We sing this at chapel services and they are quickly becoming my favorite part of the day. It’s so powerful to worship with a body of believers! The music and messages have been phenomenal. I’m looking forward to our talent show tomorrow night!!! Parents, come watch!!!!

Much love & peace!

Super Stupendous Monday

Date June 7, 2010

Hi, I’m Alyssa from Camden, SC. Today was the first day of the first week of camp, and everything started off with a BANG!! When the kids arrived they were immediately sent to registration and watched the lovely movie created by the Longridge staff, informing them of all the camp guidlines. Then, the kids entered the Longridge team room where they put on their team bracelets and enjoyed some tasty lemonade. After the team room, kids were moved into their cabins to meet their cabin leaders. Lake time followed this brief meeting and all the kids completed a miniscule yet important swim test in order to swim in the deep end or to participate in the Blob. After an hour or so of lake time, the kids headed back to the cabins for a freshen up period. Once clean and fresh, it was dinner time. We had Barbeque, green beans, and apple cobbler for dessert… Yummy!! Chapel followed and then the children had a brief canteen break before heading back to their cabins for the night. Today was soo exiting that I cannot wait to see what tomorrow holds for this utterly fantastic group of campers!!

LAST SUNDAY BEFORE KIDS CAMP!

Date May 30, 2010

hey yall!! This is Brianna Meeler. Im a first year staffer this year at camp. I just finished my freshman year at the University of South Carolina in Aiken and my major is elementary education.
Camp has been awesome so far. The first two work weeks flew by, and today marks our last Sunday before camp officially begins!!
Today was definitely an easy day at camp for us. We started with our group Bible study about Satan and ended the evening with a staff wide game of wiffleball. Old staff ended up winning against New staff, which I still think was an unfair game. New staff all the way!!

Tenacious Tuesday

Date May 25, 2010

Yo! What’s up everyone? I’m Nate James. I’m 20 years old and I will be a junior at Anderson University next school year. This is my first summer working at Camp Longridge and it’s been amazing so far! God has done some amazing things here at camp and we have only been here just over one week!

So today is Tenacious Tuesday. For those of you who don’t know what tenacious means, it means a strong, tight hold; holding together. It was perfect for our first day of ropes course training as we dealt with ropes which is very important to be tenacious!

Last Saturday, we had our Open House event. We had 150+ people here at the camp and it was awesome! We had all of the lake activities open which consist of “the bullet” (big water slide), the blob, canoeing, and fishing. The high ropes course and paintball was also open for use on Saturday. For lunch we had amazing grilled burgers and hotdogs as well as some barbeque, baked beans, and chips! The sweet tea was awesome! It was so good! haha. Overall, Saturday was a great day to be outdoors! I just want to take this time to thank all of our cooks for a great lunch, all of our lifeguards who worked the lake, all of our ropes course facilitators, all of our paintball facilitators, all of our sales table workers! Everyone did such a great job! Most of all, I want to thank God for an awesome and safe time!

Last night, we had a prayer walk around the camp grounds. We all gathered together and prayed for camp this summer, each staffer, every child/student/church group who comes into the camp this summer, the worship band, rec time, Cecil and the kitchen workers, canteen workers, Frank and Mark Shivers as they deliver messages of God’s word this summer that God would open up our eyes and hearts as well as the kid’s/student’s eyes and hearts to receive what has to be said so that we would apply these applications to our lives to live like Christ! We also prayed for Scott as he administrates everything this summer, etc. The list goes on and on. We prayed for several things! Thanks to Justin and Chas for playing the guitar for us as we walked around the camp praying for many many things for this summer! Yall did a great job. I really felt God moving last night. The holy spirit was definitely working in the lives of the staffers. I felt the presence of the holy spirit moving and working and God is going to do some amazing things summer! I am so excited to see what He has in store for my life as well as the lives of the other staffers, kids, and students this summer! Also last night we, the staffers, had the chance to stand around a bonfire down by the lake and share a moment that we have experienced with another staffer that really encouraged us. It was a really amazing time to get to know each staffer better and to share our thoughts and feelings! God has brought this 2010 summer staff so close already in only one week!! It is so amazing what God is doing here at Camp Longridge already. I am so excited for the campers to come! It’s gonna be awesome! Overall, the prayer walk was just what we needed to do! We will definitely have to do it more often when we get the chance!

Today, we hit up the ropes course! It was a blast and so much fun! The ropes course trainers are very experienced and are great teachers! Today we learned all about the equipment used in ropes course activities. This involves a lot of equipment, but it is very essential because safety comes first! Also we had the opportunity to learn 4 rope knots! And to top today off, we learned how to belay someone climbing the rock climbing wall! It was so awesome! We learned so much today on the ropes course and we have a couple more days to learn more things! Thank you God for all of the safety today! We know that on a ropes course there can be serious injuries, but by your grace, we made it through the day safely! Lord, we ask that you bless us with a great night’s rest and and great day tomorrow on the ropes course! We also ask for you to keep us safe tomorrow through our activities up on the course. All these things we pray in Christ’s name. Amen!

Thanks guys,
Nate James
