Welcome to the Camp Longridge Staff Blog
July 6, 2010
Hey! So, it’s Tuesday, July 6 and we have a group here at Camp Longridge for a retreat! They arrived yesterday morning! They have been involved in different activities so far with their group such as a scavenger hunt around camp with different clues to help them, games, chapel services, and lots of fun at the lake and ropes course! The group will be here until Saturday morning! They seem to be having a blast, and it’s a joy to be here at camp serving them! They have many different activities planned out for the rest of the week. The people are so nice and really awesome!

This week was amazing. The small groups this week were so awesome to be apart of. It was a time where the students could all come together and talk about different things that they were thinking about struggling with etc. There also was some sweet activities this week. One day we got to build a boat from whatever we could find and have a race. We decided to go with the cast away looking raft and were greatly defeated. That is just a spec of all the fun stuff we did this week. It was awesome seeing the students getting pushed spiritually and growing in their relationship with god! This week was The Best Ever!!!!!!

Greetings!
Today, our final full day together at 2.0 2010, was filled with fun and excitement and the sense of stepping towards the edge, embarking on a journey to an unforeseen destination. The students began the day with optional sessions of stretching or fishing by the lake, and after that, we gathered together for breakfast. After breakfast, students went down to the lake to a place of solitude to engage in their quiet time to prepare for the day. Today, our discussion turns to Moses, who stood on the brink of promised land but never reached it before his death.
Throughout the day, the students adventured to the high ropes course in their small group units for a time of bonding, of adventure, and of fellowship, challenging their minds and bodies and encouraging one another.
After their quiet times, we gathered as a camp family for our worship experience, this morning led by one of our small groups. Our worship text was Psalm 139, and the students shared their thoughts on scripture and led us in music. After worship, the students gathered in their small group for discussion which was followed by an exciting and original activity time led by the Sports and Activities small group.
After lunch, the students returned to their small groups to construct their boat for our annual Camp Longridge 2.0 Regatta Extravaganza! The students built the boats and a paddle out of random materials and one student from each small group raced the boats form the edge of the dock to the shore! It was a photo finish, and each team’s boat was creative and original. Small group spirit and friendship poured over in the excitement.
After the Regatta, the students had several hours to relax and enjoy the activities at the lake. When we gathered later for supper, the students sat with their small groups and the staff from their groups served them and took time to fellowship and bond together.
Next, the students met with their church groups to discuss the day. When that concluded, the small groups met again for a final time to construct a station for the final invitation in our worship experience. In chapel this evening, Mark reminded us of Moses and his journey to the promised land. In return, three staff members shared their own life’s journey, including their vision of their promised land. Finally, each student was invited to take a marker and draw their own path, stopping at the stations set up around the chapel that represented significant moments or aspects of their life, like friends, relationships, school, and salvation. Students were urged to take that risk in sharing their story and to imagine their own vision for the promised land.
After chapel, we concluded the day with a time of fellowship, snacking on funnel cakes and ice cream while watching a classic camp film, reenacted by our own camp staff. After a day of risking vulnerability, of pushing ourselves physically and mentally and spiritually, and of considering our own past, present, and future, students finished with a quiet devotional time in their cabin.
This week itself has been an incredible journey, but, like Moses, we are standing on the brink of the promised land, continuing on this journey that has not ended. We’ve tracked our past, considered our present, and envisioned our future, and as a camp family, we are eager to see what that future may hold.
Grace and peace,
Hillary

Wow. What an amazing day we have had at 2.0 camp! It’s been a great opening day! We had the opportunity to meet our teams as well as our small groups to get to know everyone better! We have an awesome group of students this year at Camp Longridge for the 2.0 camp. Everyone arrived early afternoon and got checked in and then moved into their cabins. Shortly after we got ready for lake time. The students took their swimming tests, swimming from one dock to the other and back. After all the tests were over, we opened the lake for an open swim as well as the blob and the slide. After lake time, we went back to the cabins and got ready for the amazing barbeque dinner! We had the chance to fellowship with one another and talk with the students. We had our first chapel service this evening. The praise band led worship through songs. Mark then came and shared the story of Adam and Eve with us while they were in the Garden of Eden and asked us the question, “Where are you?” symbolizing where are we with God and in life with our walk with Christ. We had different stations set up in the chapel for the students to participate in. It was truly amazing to see the students go around to the different stations and be apart of the service. They had the chance to express what they felt about images of God, to write down prayers, to write things about what the New Kingdom will be like, etc. It was an awesome experience! Tonight we had a bonfire where we made smores and had the opportunity to hang out with the students and play a few games with our teams! I just want to thank God for everything he has done so far here at 2.0 camp, and I pray for the rest of the week and what we have left in store for us! Lord, You are AMAZING!
Thanks,
Nate James

All of us staffers awoke with excitement this morning because we knew the campers would be here soon! We We made the last touch ups to get the camp ready for all of our friends that would join us for the week. After lunch, the busses, vans, trucks, and cars started rolling in, bringing one of the coolest bunches of people I have ever met. After everyone got settled in their cabins, we headed down to Clark Lake. The campers and staff were pumped and ready for a great swim time, and a GREAT swim time it was! Some poeple blobbed, some slid, some joined in a intense game of teatherball, and some swam in the awesome lake and met new friends. Swim time ended and cabin time began. The boys and girls got ready for the first team activity. The teams met and the cheers started! Each team shouted and cheered as we played and encouraged each other. After team activity came a delicious barbecue dinner with apple cobbler and ice cream for desert. YUM! Soon after dinner, teh praise band led us for the first time this week. We learned the theme song and the motions to go with it. We samg more great songs and we enjoyed each one while we worshipped our Savior. Mr. Frank shared a message with us about God knocking at our heart’s door. The staff and campers listened and learned as mr. Frank told us about how God knocks at our heart and wants to come in and be a part of our lives and the Lord of our lives. Many students answered that knocking and prayed to receive Christ. After the great and moving chapel service, we headed to our first canteen break. We had fun talking and playing together while we ate some tasty snacks. The team volley ball tournament got underway and all four teams played great! We will continue our tournament later in the week to find the volley ball champs! We concluded the night activities by creating still pictures with our teams. The girls and boys showed a ton of creativity as they made living pictures of starry night, a solar eclipse, a hot air balloon, and fire works. The boys and girls then headed to their cabins to have devotions and get ready for an awesome day tomorrow!

Today was the last day of week 2 of children’s camp and it was jam-packed with many fun events. The campers rose for breakfast at 8 am and had a hearty meal of biscuits and sausage gravy… yummy!! Next the kids had music worship in the chapel followed by a brief canteen break. Then, the children gathered into teams for their final team activity. Lastly the kids met in the chapel to be presented awards by cabin and for “peanut patch” olympics. It was sad to see this awesome group of campers leave, but many of them made great decisions that have to be shown out in the world and not just at camp. So, all in all, it was a FANTASTIC week and I hope to see their smiling faces again next year!!
