Like Electrified Squirrels Chasing Food for the Winter…

Date July 26, 2006

Oh what an exciting day!!! Starting with some sweet pankakes, today (Wednesday) flowed like a rushing river…straight from breakfast yawns to talent show screams! After a delicious meal of golden pancakes, cereal, and bacon, the kids headed to devotion. Focusing on God first helped get them started with some good attitudes on the hill. The Red Team owned the spirit flag today, leading us up the great mound knowneth as the hill with mighty ferocious red sounds (cheers, chants, etc). CHAOS–a new game this summer was executed dynamically by the campers and staffers! Kids were able to get their team’s staff leaders messy! Paint, toilet paper, flour, water, baby food, clothes, poetry, and crackers all joined in making chaos a fun time for the kids and a great photo-opp! After the day’s activities, the campers headed to Bible study and Sunrise Worship celebration. One of the Bible studies focused on what we like our friends to be like, which lead into how awesome Jesus is for being our best friend and loving us more than anyone or anything! Lunch included some great french fries, chicken sandwiches, and chocolate pudding. Peanut Patch went terrifically with the campers scurrying around for points like electrified squirrels chasing food for the winter! Lake time was fantastic! Many speedy kids traveled the slide and zipline with hardly any complaint of swimmer’s ear! It was night Italiano! The campers enjoyed spaghetti and lasagna for supper! During Worship, the praise band lead all to reflect on the love of Jesus through many songs. Last, but not least, “Nails” reminded us all of just how much Jesus paid to give us life! Then, Mr. Frank preached an amazing sermon using an object lesson. He related a car to many things in the Christian life. From the steering wheel being the Bible which guides us, to the brakes being our conscious and the Holy Spirit leading us on and helping us make right decisions for God, Mr. Frank spoke in a way in which the kids really could grasp the concepts and remember by relating to the automobile! After a sugar filled canteen break, the last talent show of Camp Longridge’s 2006 summer began! Beautiful vocal acts as well as many heart touching and stomach chuckling skits were presented! The Orange Team reigned victoriously with a realistic enactment of different sins putting Jesus through the crucifixion and a reciting of John 3:16. All skits were awesome indeed! Many a joke was told…not many a laugh, however. I guess the campers don’t always get Tyler’s odd humour. The staff men did their weekly mess-fest of a skit and the girls did the “Mirror” skit for the last time this summer. The Staff version of the Mickey Mouse song triumphantly brought the last show to a close! Off went campers to their cabins like wolves in the night. Overall, today was Christ filled, action packed, sweat enchanced, and food enjoyed! We can’t wait to see what tomorrow holds! LIGHTS OUT!
